Coaching Cues

Coaching cues are the heart of Cuvo — real-time suggestions that help you say the right thing at the right moment. They appear during your session as concise, actionable prompts tailored to the live conversation.

How cues are generated

As your conversation unfolds, Cuvo periodically sends the accumulated transcript to an AI model along with your session context — conversation type, goals, reference documents, CRM contact details, and meeting information. The AI analyzes what’s been said and delivers a coaching cue: a question to ask, a point to make, a topic you haven’t covered, or a way to steer the discussion.

Cues arrive automatically at regular intervals throughout the session. The timing adapts to the flow of the conversation.

On-demand cues

Don’t want to wait? Tap the lightning bolt button to request a cue immediately. This is useful when the conversation takes an unexpected turn and you want instant guidance.

iPhone & iPad

With an external keyboard, you can also trigger an on-demand cue with + N .

Copying cues and transcript

Each coaching cue has a copy button — click or tap it to copy the cue text, useful for pasting a talking point into a chat window. You can also right-click or long-press a cue for a context menu with copy. Individual transcript lines can be copied the same way.

Provider indicator

Below the start button, a small indicator tells you which AI provider will generate your cues:

  • Cloud (teal dot) — Cues are generated by a cloud-hosted model. This produces the richest, most detailed coaching cues.
  • On-device (accent dot) — Cues are generated locally using Apple Intelligence. Cues may be simpler, but nothing leaves your device. This is used as a fallback when the cloud provider isn’t available, or when you enable Private Mode.
  • No model available (amber dot) — Neither provider is available. Transcription still works, but cues won’t be generated.

Private Mode

Tap the provider indicator to toggle Private Mode (when Apple Intelligence is available on your device). With Private Mode enabled:

  • Coaching cues are generated entirely on-device using Apple Intelligence.
  • No transcript text is sent to the cloud.
  • The indicator changes to a hand icon with “On-device” label.

Cues in Private Mode may be simpler than cloud-generated ones, but your conversation stays fully local. See Privacy for the complete picture.

Getting the most from cues

A few things that make cues more useful:

  • Set specific goals. “Close the deal” is vague. “Understand their Q3 budget and propose the annual plan” gives the AI something concrete to coach toward.
  • Attach reference material. Upload a product spec, meeting agenda, or candidate resume. The AI can pull from these when generating cues.
  • Connect your CRM. For sales calls, selecting a contact gives the AI access to deal history, company info, and past notes — so cues reference real context, not generic advice.
  • Select the meeting. Linking a calendar event lets the AI see the meeting title, attendees, and notes.
  • Choose the right conversation type. Each type has a different coaching personality. A Sales Call cue pushes toward closing; a 1-on-1 cue encourages deeper listening.

Speaker labels

When headphones are connected on macOS, Cuvo captures your microphone and system audio as two separate streams. This enables speaker labels in the transcript:

  • “You” — audio from your microphone.
  • “Other” — audio from system audio capture.

Without headphones, or on iPhone and iPad, everything flows through the microphone as a single stream. The transcript still captures what the mic hears, but without speaker labels — Cuvo can’t distinguish who said what from a single audio source.

Viewing the transcript

The transcript is visible throughout your session, updating in real time.

macOS

The session view is split into two panes: coaching cues on one side, transcript on the other. Drag the divider to adjust the space.

iPad

Same as macOS — a split view with a draggable divider.

iPhone & iPad

On iPhone, tap the transcript toggle button to slide up a bottom sheet showing the live transcript. Tap again to dismiss.

Cues on your Lock Screen

During a conversation, you can’t always have the app open in front of you. On iPhone, Live Activities bring your coaching cues to the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island.

Dynamic Island

When a session is active, the Dynamic Island shows your latest coaching cue and a cue count. Tap it to jump back into Cuvo. Press and hold for an expanded view without unlocking.

Lock Screen

The Lock Screen Live Activity shows:

  • Latest coaching cue — the most recent suggestion
  • Conversation type — what kind of session is active
  • Elapsed time — how long the session has been running

Live Activities start automatically with your session and clear when you stop. Nothing extra to configure.

Tips for Live Activities

  • Phone calls — Your screen locks automatically during calls. Live Activities keep cues visible without switching apps.
  • In-person meetings — Set your phone face-up on the table for silent, glanceable cues.
  • Video calls on another device — Running Cuvo on your iPhone while on a Zoom call on your Mac? Live Activities let you check cues on your phone.
